I love the layout of the screen. It is very easy to read at a glance, plus it shows exactly what's important to me: temperature, humidity, air pressure, date and time. It is very easy to set the date and time and other options. The blue backlighting is beautiful. The option to hang or use with the included stand is great. The transmitter and main unit use AA batteries, which are readily available. I had no idea that the outdoor humidity levels fluctuated as much as they do throughout the day/night until I got this weather center. The whole unit is a little larger than I was expecting, and the weather forecast is not very accurate even though it has learned over the past 14 days, but I still think this weather center is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone.

La Crosse Technology WS-9009B-IT Wireless Temperature Station Review

Obviously, if the sensor and main unit are in the same place they should read the same ... right? They started 2 degrees off but after a few minutes they are now 4 degrees off. To me that makes a big difference. I would have been using this in my greenhouse to know when to keep it above freezing but will be returning it instead.

La Crosse Technology La Crosse Technology Weather Channel WS-9005TWC-IT Wireless Rain Center with Self-Emptying Rain Bucket Review

I find this rain guage to be not user friendly. I had trouble getting accurate readings from the time I first started using it. Reaching help by telephone is difficult; often there is no one to answer the phone. When I have found someone on the other end of the phone they have been helpful, but the information they give should be in the instruction manual. The instruction manual needs to be more thorough in order to explain all the possibilities of what can go wrong and how to deal with these situations.

Monitor rain conditions with this wireless rain center. From La Crosse Technology\'s The Weather Channel collection, the rain center comprises of a TX24U-IT rain bucket sensor and a white LCD receiver, which stands alone on a tabletop or wall mounts. The sensor measures the total rainfall (with a range of 0 to 787 inches), rainfall for the past 24 hours, and the current rainfall\'s heaviness. To prevent water from overflowing, the rain bucket self-empties with its internal system of tilting cups. From up to 330 feet, the sensor transmits data every six seconds at a 915 MHz frequency. The receiver relays the total rainfall and 24-hour rainfall in inches to a hundredth of an inch, and features graphic indicators for current rain conditions. If more than ten counts(0.2-inch readings) of rainfall have been reported in the past 10 minutes, the heavy rainfall indicator appears; this graphic indicator\'s animated rain distinguishes it from the light rainfall indicator. The rain center also offers a rainfall alarm over a 24-hour period that beeps when a user-determined amount, from .05 to 4 inches of rain, has been reached. With the easy two-button interface, the user sets the alarm and resets the total rainfall. The 24-hour rainfall total resets to 0.00 every 24 hours. For accurate rain measurement, mount the rain bucket in a secure, flat location without obstructions. The rain center requires the separate purchase of two AA and two AAA batteries. A limited one-year manufacturer\'s warranty covers this item. The receiver measures 2-9/10 inches wide by 1-1/5 inches deep by 3-5/6 inches high, while the rain bucket measures 5-2/3 inches wide by 2-1/5 inches deep by 3-1/2 inches high.

Rainbird ESP-SMT4i Indoor Smart Control System Review

Rainbird ESP-SMT4i Indoor Smart Control System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am your average homeowner, with a geeky side....and this controller will appeal to geeks! I have practically no experience with sprinkler systems, yet I was able to get this installed and configured without any trouble. The quick start guide and instruction manual are very clearly written, and the controller is very easy to use. The hardest part is probably deciding where to mount the weather station. There are no subscription fees, which I think is a huge plus. The weather station measures temp, volume of rain, and rain intensity. This, combined with your zip code, and a plethora of information you enter for each zone, allows the controller to intelligently water your yard.
I am very impressed with the level of customization you can do for the zones, controller, and watering behavior. I was able to program the San Diego water restriction schedule with no problem. I really can't imagine an easier to use controller, or one that is more customizable. The only possible downsides are that it doesn't measure humidity (relies on pre-programmed monthly averages for your zipcode, or you can put in your own averages) and it doesn't measure solar intensity. But there are a lot of customizable parameters you can tweak to lock in the right watering amount.
I purchased the outdoor model on accident, even though I wanted it mounted indoors. This was actually an advantage to me, because the 12V DC transformer is in the controller housing and not a brick that plugs into the outlet. This makes the other outlet easier to access. All I had to do to convert it was buy a $3 extension cord at the home improvement store and cut off one end and use wire nuts to connect the wires inside the controller. I think this looks more finished than an external power brick.
If you self-install, you will need to know a bit about the type of soil you have, breed of grass, and other information to acurately tell the controller about your environment. A little googling and common sense should get you most of the way. Chances are your sprinklers may need adjusting, so you could always have a pro verify your settings and make any required corrections to really dial it in. But it by no means requires a pro to configure as the menus and interface is very intuitive. It even has a 7 day weather history showing low temp, high temp, precipiation, and evaporative value.
Highly recommended, and also qualified for the SoCal water rebate, saving me $80.

I wanted a cheap digital humidity gauge for my condo. This one works well but has a major flaw, the display is only visible from a certain angle above the unit. I can't read it on my desk sitting down, but if I stand up I can see the numbers.
I bought two, one to mount on the wall but if I did that I wouldn't be able to read it at all! Anything would be better. I know this is a low cost unit but really this is the worst I've seen for viewing angles...

La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP Wireless Thermometer/Clock with Remote Outdoor Temperature Sensor Review

La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP Wireless Thermometer/Clock with Remote Outdoor Temperature Sensor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Do you remember those old mercury-filled indoor/outdoor thermometers that we used to squint at, wondering if the temperature was really correct? Do you remember how the outdoor sensor used to get broken after a few years, usually by a window being lowered too hard on its sensor wire?
That's not a problem with this La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP Wireless Thermometer, a great little unit that displays the time, along with indoor and outdoor temperature, in either °F or °C. It's LCD digital display is clear and easy to read, and is split into three sections, showing the time, indoor temperature and outdoor temperature. The outdoor temperature display is updated about every 16 seconds via a 915 MHz wireless signal, eliminating the need for wires.
The base unit, or receiver, measures 4.66" high, 2.29" wide and 0.69" deep, and has the option of being mounted in its flat base (see the photos) or wall mounted... and they even include the screws and wall anchors. Setup of the receiver is simple, and takes just a couple of minutes once the AAA batteries (not included) are installed in the base unit.
The smaller outdoor sensor (Model TX27U-IT) is a simple rectangular transmitter, measuring 3.5 x 1.5 x 0.53 inches, and it has a small LCD to allow for viewing temperatures while outdoors. It also has a flat base that can be mounted outdoors in a variety of ways, or with the screws and wall anchors. And the sensor does come with a CR2032 battery, which they say will last about a year. The directions say that this can be placed outdoors up to 330 feet away. I tested it at about 250 feet away, and it works just fine.
During the setup I found one strange quirk: if you set the time to 24-hour mode, the temperature indictor switches to °C, and in 12-hour mode, it automatically goes to °F. I personally didn't find this to be a show-stopper, just a mild curiosity. Did a quick accuracy check to see how much difference there was between the base unit and the outdoor sensor, and after awhile gave up, as they seemed to be at most 0.6 °F apart, which is better than I expected. There's a MIN/MAX button on the indoor receiver unit so that you can see the readings for both indoors and outdoors. Pros:
- It's very accurate.
- Just set it up and forget it - it works.
- Excellent instruction book, in English Spanish & French.
Cons:
- It can't predict the weather.Did you want to monitor the temperature in other areas, such as a baby's room, a greenhouse and your back yard, but all at once? This particular La Crosse Technology Wireless Thermometer already comes with a single TX27U-IT 915 MHz sensor, as previously noted, and will accept a total of three 915 MHz sensors - two in addition to the original. This can be a problem if you're not sure what your looking for, as there are dual-channel transmitters that will not work with this unit -- RTFM!

There are a couple available here that will work with the WS-9121U-IT-CBP receiver. The La Crosse Technology TX27U-IT 915 MHz Wireless Temperature Sensor with LCD is the identical unit to the one that comes with this wireless thermometer. The simpler La Crosse Technology TX37U-IT 915 Mhz Wireless Temperature Sensor has no LCD display, but is weather resistant, and excellent for use in outdoor areas where exposure to the elements might be something to consider. The point is that if you want to monitor the temperature in up to three remote areas plus where the base unit sits, you just need to pick the right sensor/transmitter.
Must admit that it was the quality that I had found in the excellent La Crosse Technology BC-900 AlphaPower Battery Charger that heavily influenced my purchase of this product over others on the market, and it has easily lived up to my expectations.
Had tested a few of these wireless thermometers and temperature stations from various manufacturers, and found some to be complete crap. One of the good ones was the La Crosse Technology WS-9013U-CBP Wireless Temperature Station, which offers the date on the LCD panel and its time is updated by radio signal. On the downside its outdoor wireless (433.92MHz) temperature sensor has a maximum range of "up to 80 feet." And be aware that transmission through walls and/or heavy foliage reduces the range on all of these.
If you're looking for a reliable indoor/outdoor thermometer without getting into a full professional weather station, the La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP wireless thermometer is very hard to beat.

La Crosse Technology Ws-1612Al-It Professional Weather Center - Choose Finish Review

La Crosse Technology Ws-1612Al-It Professional Weather Center - Choose Finish

This product includes three weather instrument packages: anemometer/wind direction vane, temperature/humidity, and rainfall, all wirelessly linked to a large LCD display. It shows those data on the display roughly in real time (seems to update every five/seven seconds or so) and keeps track not only of maxima and minima on most of those statistics but also when they occurred... very nice. Fairly easy to set up, see my review on the National Geographic weather station on how to get their similar wind and temperature packages set up. That's the good news.
The bad news is that the system is grossly inaccurate. The wind speed data always reports wind speeds thirty to fifty percent below their actual values (when compared to a NOAA instrument package very near my house), and temperatures that vary wildly as the day goes on.
I gathered enough data on wind and temperature readings several times/day for several days to see that while the AVERAGE value of the temperature reported over the day is fairly close to the NOAA data, the standard deviation is about 250 percent that of the NOAA data, despite my locating the thermometer off the ground and in the shade. The wind speed data's always significantly under actual wind speed -- the cheaper National Geographic unit with its anemometer sitting within a few feet of the Lacrosse anemometer tracked with the NOAA data very well -- despite the fact that I actually purchased a replacement anemometer unit from Lacrosse. (Both units showed the same biases -- wind direction was correct, wind speed under-reported.) Atmospheric pressure was, however, dead on... once calibrated. So, I thought, maybe there's a calibration procedure for the wind speed?
The true insult, however, was when I contacted Lacrosse looking for some guidance... could they recommend better infrared shielding for the temperature gauge? Was there a way to calibrate and adjust the package's interpretation of the wind speed information? Their Web site warned that they were very busy this time of year so I thought I'd be a nice guy and use their email. No answer for two weeks, so I politely asked a second time; no answer. It's been four weeks and I'm still waiting.
This unit seems basically well-thought-out, save for the lack of calibration opportunities. Without that calibration, though, it's completely worthless. Save your money.

With its combination of outdoor sensors and a multi-function indoor display, the WS-1612CH-IT professional weather station from La Crosse Technology keeps tabs on everything the local climate dishes up. Using a wireless 915 MHz transmission with a range of up to 330 feet, the unit tracks, displays, and records data for outdoor temperature, rainfall, relative air pressure, and humidity. It also gauges wind direction, wind speed, and wind chill, as well as sounding off alarms for high-wind conditions and approaching storms. A memory feature keeps record of maximum and minimum temperature and humidity readings, and a visual diagram indicates likely weather forecasts. For added helpful reference, the monitor also displays the time, the day, and the date, as well as indicating when battery power is low.
