(More customer reviews)Don't let the looks dissuade you, as an electronics design engineer I can say that this is an excellently designed rain gauge, and it easily dissembles for battery installation and mounting. I have mine on a pole that has a small flat wood top section and I just screwed it to the wood with the supplied stainless wood screws. I like the simplicity of this unit, other rain gages that I have had try to do too many things and as a result do nothing well. The read out is very large and one can toggle between the 24 hour rain accumulation or the accumulative total. So the bottom line is if you want an inexpensive accurate, simple rain gauge this would be a good choice.

Especially when it rains while you sleep, it\'s hard to know exactly how much moisture fell and how much water the garden needs. With much of the growing season\'s success relying on getting just the right amount moisture, it\'s wise to keep tabs on exact amounts of rainfall, and clever, even, to do so with ease. This wireless rain gauge has all that covered and more.
The gauge features an extra-wide, 6-inch-diameter collector basin for optimal accuracy. The basin is equipped with a transmitter that radio\'s data to the digital console inside the house. The console displays rainfall in cumulative totals as well as 24-hour totals, showing data in either inches or millimeters. A battery power icon indicates how much power is left on the outdoor basin, so there\'s no wondering whether the thing\'s working as it should. Best of all, the outdoor basin is self-emptying; a nice feature when the rain won\'t letup long enough to get out there and empty it yourself without getting soaked.
More great features include a broad yet deep basin that reduces interference from wind to capture a representative amount of rainfall without letting rainwater splash in or splash out. A removable screen collects debris so falling leaves don\'t affect data. And a smart alert function tells you when levels you set yourself are breached; indicating that that automatic morning watering of the vegetable garden might not be needed. A large, easy-to-read display means quick reads at a glance. And the purchase is backed by a one-year manufacturer warranty.
