I shopped for a weather glass / storm glass barometer for some time before finding this one from Wiseacresart. The entire glass is 6 inches tall, and the globe is 3.5 inches in diameter.
I was impressed with the packaging the moment it arrived. Securely set in a custom molded stiff foam box within the cardboard box, this glass was very well protected.
The package included informative, clear, illustrated instructions, and ---surprise-- a small syringe and plastic tube as described in the instructions to assist in clean efficient filling.
The only thing you'll need that isn't included is a few drops of food coloring.
A note about its performance: I live in a cabin in a redwood rainforest, arguably the rainiest inhabited location in the 48 states (125 inches of rain some years). We have fairly large barometric swings on a daily basis. This device is sensitive enough to reliably and accurately predict the weather twelve to twenty-four hours ahead.
Remember, however, that this is an old school instrument. You should read the glass at the same time each day, either morning or evening, or both, and try to read the glass at a consistent temperature. It predates temperature-compensated barometers, so the water will read a bit lower at colder temperatures. This cabin has much broader temperature swings throughout the day than most homes, and yet, with a little practice you can accurately predict the coming weather. In a conventional building this glass will prove to be even more accurate.
Buy this with confidence. It's great quality for the price, and a delightful addition to your day. It will make a terrific gift for anyone of any age interested in science, the outdoors, or the natural world.

It will predict barometric weather changes by observing the rise and fall of liquid in the storm glass. All you have to do is to add colored distilled water and it is ready to go. The instructions are included. You can use it free standing on it's own, or you can also work it into a project with a wood base and so on but not required.Reading The Instrument: Variations in barometric pressure are immediately indicated by the level of water in the spout. A low water level in the spout suggests "high pressure", representing fair weather. A high water level in the spout suggests "low pressure" and forecasts poor weather conditions. In cases of severe weather (or major storms), the water may even run out of the spout. How it works: There is "weight" associated with the high and low-pressure systems which bring about changes in the weather. When the storm glass is filled with water, air pressure in the main chamber is trapped and held constant. Any changes in the atmospheric pressure are visible by the rising or falling level of water in the spout. While the storm glass will not indicate exact barometric pressure in numerical values, it is still regarded as an accurate monitor of air pressure changes. Such changes can be visible on a smaller scale, as the instrument is sensitive enough to measure pressure changes between the attic and basement of a three-story house.
