With only two reviews written for this product, I was a little unsure about whether to purchase it at first. However, the look and relatively low price persuaded me to give it a shot. Unfortunately, it turned out the bad review was the advice I should have heeded.
Not only does the sensor for this item lose communication with the base (i.e. crashes), there are also several other details of its performance that caught my attention. With regard to the range of the sensor, it does not perform within the advertised range of 100 feet, as noted in the instructions. I had a difficult time getting this thing to communicate across my living room, let alone outside my house. My house is a brick house, so it may be possible this product has difficulty communicating through such material. If that is the case though, there is no mention of it in the instructions.
Nevertheless, I decided to experiment with the sensor and see if perhaps I was doing something wrong. I finally seemed to land upon a solution. If I placed the sensor outside my bedroom window, in the space between the glass and the screen, and also placed the base in my bedroom, I could get both the outside temperature as well as room temperature. However, after two days, the sensor stopped communicating with the base and displayed only "--.-". I then reset the base and it did again find the sensor, but it only worked for another two days before it crashed again (I sense a pattern). This also affected the temperature trend feature of this product since a temperature was not registering enough to establish a trend.
There is also another curious issue with this product. It advertises it can track humidity both inside and outside. However, once you open the product and read the instructions, you find the sensor that is provided with the base DOES NOT do this for the outside (although the inside humidity reading works fine). You instead need to buy a different type sensor for this feature to be effective. After a few seconds looking on Amazon, I did find the sensor mentioned in the instructions, and it was priced an additional $23. On the surface, this isn't something I would probably have returned this item for; I don't follow the weather that closely! Still, there was something a little bit irksome about this that did not give me a very good feeling at the start in dealing with this product. That in combination with the other issues I mention here made this simply a poor product to have spent money on.
In over ten years of regular shopping on Amazon, this is the first time I have ever had to return a product based on poor performance. Serious improvements need to be made in either the mechanics of this product or in how it is advertised.
