La Crosse Technology WS-9009B-IT Wireless Temperature Station Review

La Crosse Technology WS-9009B-IT Wireless Temperature Station

Obviously, if the sensor and main unit are in the same place they should read the same ... right? They started 2 degrees off but after a few minutes they are now 4 degrees off. To me that makes a big difference. I would have been using this in my greenhouse to know when to keep it above freezing but will be returning it instead.

Stay informed about the indoor and outdoor temperatures with this basic wireless temperature station. From La Crosse Technology, the WS-9009B-IT temperature station relates the current indoor and outdoor temperatures while tracking both environments\' recorded minimum and maximum temperatures.
The temperature station\'s receiver features a blue plastic frame. Equipped with a hanging hole for wall mounting, the temperature station receiver also comes with a detachable base for upright tabletop display. The split screen LCD conveys the current indoor temperature in large, easy-to-read digits with the current outdoor temperature, presented in smaller digits on the bottom of the screen. For large display of the outdoor temperature, the user presses the IN/OUT button on the receiver\'s face to swap the two values\' LCD positioning. Use the MIN/MAX button to toggle between indoor and outdoor minimum and maximum readings and to reset these historical values. With all readings provided in Fahrenheit to the tenth of a degree, the temperature station evaluates outdoor temperatures ranging from -19.9 to 139.8 degrees F and indoor temperatures from 14.2 to 139.8 degrees F. The included TX38U-IT remote sensor transmits outdoor temperatures to the receiver at a 915 MHz frequency from up to 260 feet away. Using the mounting bracket, install the sensor out of direct rain or sunlight for successful operation. The separate purchase of two AAA and two AA batteries is required to power the receiver and sensor. This item is covered by a limited one-year warranty. With its base on, the temperature station receiver measures 3-1/4 inches wide by 2 inches deep by 4-1/2 inches high. The sensor measures 1-1/4 inches wide by 1/2 inch deep by 3-2/5 inches high.

La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP Wireless Thermometer/Clock with Remote Outdoor Temperature Sensor Review

La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP Wireless Thermometer/Clock with Remote Outdoor Temperature Sensor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Do you remember those old mercury-filled indoor/outdoor thermometers that we used to squint at, wondering if the temperature was really correct? Do you remember how the outdoor sensor used to get broken after a few years, usually by a window being lowered too hard on its sensor wire?
That's not a problem with this La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP Wireless Thermometer, a great little unit that displays the time, along with indoor and outdoor temperature, in either °F or °C. It's LCD digital display is clear and easy to read, and is split into three sections, showing the time, indoor temperature and outdoor temperature. The outdoor temperature display is updated about every 16 seconds via a 915 MHz wireless signal, eliminating the need for wires.
The base unit, or receiver, measures 4.66" high, 2.29" wide and 0.69" deep, and has the option of being mounted in its flat base (see the photos) or wall mounted... and they even include the screws and wall anchors. Setup of the receiver is simple, and takes just a couple of minutes once the AAA batteries (not included) are installed in the base unit.
The smaller outdoor sensor (Model TX27U-IT) is a simple rectangular transmitter, measuring 3.5 x 1.5 x 0.53 inches, and it has a small LCD to allow for viewing temperatures while outdoors. It also has a flat base that can be mounted outdoors in a variety of ways, or with the screws and wall anchors. And the sensor does come with a CR2032 battery, which they say will last about a year. The directions say that this can be placed outdoors up to 330 feet away. I tested it at about 250 feet away, and it works just fine.
During the setup I found one strange quirk: if you set the time to 24-hour mode, the temperature indictor switches to °C, and in 12-hour mode, it automatically goes to °F. I personally didn't find this to be a show-stopper, just a mild curiosity. Did a quick accuracy check to see how much difference there was between the base unit and the outdoor sensor, and after awhile gave up, as they seemed to be at most 0.6 °F apart, which is better than I expected. There's a MIN/MAX button on the indoor receiver unit so that you can see the readings for both indoors and outdoors. Pros:
- It's very accurate.
- Just set it up and forget it - it works.
- Excellent instruction book, in English Spanish & French.
Cons:
- It can't predict the weather.Did you want to monitor the temperature in other areas, such as a baby's room, a greenhouse and your back yard, but all at once? This particular La Crosse Technology Wireless Thermometer already comes with a single TX27U-IT 915 MHz sensor, as previously noted, and will accept a total of three 915 MHz sensors - two in addition to the original. This can be a problem if you're not sure what your looking for, as there are dual-channel transmitters that will not work with this unit -- RTFM!

There are a couple available here that will work with the WS-9121U-IT-CBP receiver. The La Crosse Technology TX27U-IT 915 MHz Wireless Temperature Sensor with LCD is the identical unit to the one that comes with this wireless thermometer. The simpler La Crosse Technology TX37U-IT 915 Mhz Wireless Temperature Sensor has no LCD display, but is weather resistant, and excellent for use in outdoor areas where exposure to the elements might be something to consider. The point is that if you want to monitor the temperature in up to three remote areas plus where the base unit sits, you just need to pick the right sensor/transmitter.
Must admit that it was the quality that I had found in the excellent La Crosse Technology BC-900 AlphaPower Battery Charger that heavily influenced my purchase of this product over others on the market, and it has easily lived up to my expectations.
Had tested a few of these wireless thermometers and temperature stations from various manufacturers, and found some to be complete crap. One of the good ones was the La Crosse Technology WS-9013U-CBP Wireless Temperature Station, which offers the date on the LCD panel and its time is updated by radio signal. On the downside its outdoor wireless (433.92MHz) temperature sensor has a maximum range of "up to 80 feet." And be aware that transmission through walls and/or heavy foliage reduces the range on all of these.
If you're looking for a reliable indoor/outdoor thermometer without getting into a full professional weather station, the La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP wireless thermometer is very hard to beat.

La Crosse Technology WS-9520U Wireless Projection Forecast Station with Oscar Outlook Review

La Crosse Technology WS-9520U Wireless Projection Forecast Station with Oscar Outlook
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the LaCrosse WS-9520U last week. As usual, the transaction and shipping with Amazon was excellent. I very rarely return online purchases, but this one is going back. In general, the unit is as advertised - and others may find it completely satisfactory - but, after two nights of use, I have found the following specific things to be unacceptable:
1. The backlight cannot be set to remain on continuously - it only lights when a button is pushed - regardless of whether you're powering with AC or batteries. I think alarm clocks are always more convenient when you can see them at, well, uh, night. Yes, the on-ceiling projection shows the time, but nothing else. This is less than convenient.
2. General build quality is iffy at best - the buttons are clunky, loud and awkwardly placed. The entire unit seems flimsy - like it's just barely holding itself together. It's extremely light and does not have a very steady base, which will make it prone to being knocked over (like when reaching for the snooze button - which you can't see because it's not illuminated and there's no backlight) and I'm not sure this thing would survive being knocked over. Sorry to say, but for $70, this just seems very cheaply built from the mechanical side of things.
3. I guess this is obvious in hindsight, but the actual time display is tiny, maybe an inch tall. Granted, you have the projector, which works as advertised (only when it's dark in the room - projection is photo-sensitively switched on/off - no other option), but seeing the clock from across the room during daylight (when the projector is not on) is not really possible unless you've got astronaut eyes.
4. There are no alarm options and the only existing tone is - IMHO - obnoxious and too loud - a sort of high-pitched staccato double-chirp. I realize this is a personal issue, but a few buzzer options would have been nice.
5. There is absolutely no way that the battery cover on the outdoor sensor will keep the elements out of the sensor. Maybe this isn't an issue if you have a protected outdoor place to locate the sensor - but if there's any moisture at all, this thing won't last one winter here in Michigan.
In summary:
Electronics: Acceptable and as advertised, tho the few things I mentioned could be better
Mechanical: unacceptably cheap, shoddy assembly fit & finish for this price point.

From The Weather Channel by La Crosse Technology, this versatile projection weather station shines the outdoor temperature and time in large, red digits on the ceiling or wall for easy nighttime illumination. The radio-controlled clock regularly resets to match the US Atomic Clock and adapts for daylight savings time. Based on temperature and barometric pressure, the weather station gives the forecast using 24 graphic icons and tendency arrows. The weather station even provides a personal weather boy, Oscar, who models what one might wear given current outside conditions.
The weather station\'s LCD screen displays the time, date, perpetual calendar, US time zone map, and weather conditions. Pushing a button temporarily engages the EL backlight for dimmer settings. To wake sleeping users, the weather station offers a dual alarm with an adjustable snooze. The station monitors indoor humidity levels and indoor temperatures from 14.2 to 139.8 degrees F. Celsius readings are also available. For outdoor conditions, an included TX7U sensor communicates at a 433 MHz frequency from up to 330 feet. The sensor registers humidity levels and temperatures ranging from –21.8 to +157.8 degrees F. The unit also records minimum and maximum readings for indoor and outdoor temperatures and humidity percentages. For the most accurate results, install the sensor in a covered location away from direct rain or sun. The base accommodates up to three sensors. Place the freestanding base at least six feet from intended projection surface. To enable constant projection, the weather station comes with a 120-volt AC adapter. The separate purchase of five AA batteries is required. Covered by a limited one-year warranty, the weather station monitor measures 6-2/3 inches wide by 2-9/10 inches deep by 4-1/2 inches high, and the sensor measures 1-3/4 inches wide by 1 inch deep by 6-1/4 inches high.

I have been wanting one of these for a while, and received this as a gift. It looks great, but it does not work right, and there is absolutely ZERO customer support from Oregon Scientific. On this one, everything works fine until the outside temp hits 80, then the humidity reading immediately changes to 2%, and never updates after that. (It went from 37% to 2% today in one step) I have tried for several days to get it to work right... tried resetting, new batteries, moving the sensor, moving the receiver, everything that I could think of, and nothing helped. Maybe I got a defective one and all the rest are perfect, but I doubt it. It's too consistent a problem to believe that it's isolated to just one. Too bad, because it's a nice design.

After too many headaches and bad stories about all the other wireless thermometers I've bought, this one is "The One". All I ever wanted was to know the temperature outside. I'm not running a science lab, I didn't need another clock, I didn't need any alarms going off, I didn't need a display that required me to put on my reading glasses, I didn't want another tech gadget that required me to sift through another user manual and all that other stuff they build into these wireless thermometers. All I wanted was a simple, easy to read display that would give me the temperature outside. The numbers (temperature) on this unit are about 1 1/2 inches tall, very easy to see. The setup is simple, put 2 AAA batteries in the sensor "first" and then put 2 AA batteries in the unit. That's it !! The temperature is accurate. Thank You La Crosse for using the KISS (keep it simple Sherlock)method.

Honeywell RCW33W Atomic Wall Clock Review

Honeywell RCW33W Atomic Wall Clock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After my Oregon Scientific atomic clock/barometer station started falling apart, I began looking for a similar item that would be large enough to see from across the room without my reading glasses. This Honeywell Weather Clock fills the bill nicely. This will hang on a wall or sit on a desk, runs on easily available AA batteries, and gives the atomic clock time/day/date, inside and outside temps (comes with a wireless outside thermometer remote probe), and a nice weather animation. There's an alarm, too, but I haven't tried it out. No backlighting, so it's more of a daytime wall clock-plus. It's aluminum-look plastic, but sturdier than my old Oregon Scientific clock and hung up more easily. It's definitely worth the money, and it's not expensive at that.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Honeywell RCW33W Atomic Wall Clock

The Honeywell RCW33W Atomic Wall Clock calibrates itself to the world's most accurate clock by receiving radio time signals. These transmissions contain information from the U.S. atomic clock source operated by the U.S. Commerce Department. The jumbo-sized time digits can be displayed in 12-hour or 24-hour format, and this clock features a calendar that displays the day in English, Spanish, French, German, or Italian. After time synchronization with the radio time signal occurs, you can select from one of four continental U.S. time zones.
The RCW33W is also a mini-weather station that displays indoor and outdoor temperatures, and even a 12-to-24 hour weather forecast with corresponding icons. For accurate outside readings, simply place the included TS13C remote sensor outside of your home or office, up to 100 feet away from the base, and the remote sensor will wirelessly send accurate outside temperature data back to the wall clock. This wall clock and remote sensor are powered by two AA batteries each (not included), and the clock also comes equipped with a handy stand for use on a nightstand or desk.

I am very pleased with this. I bought it to replace a weather station made by La Cross. My discomfort with the La Cross unit was that the remote would transmit and update the temperature every 4 seconds, so batteries only lasted about 2 1/2 months. Then the unit had to be completely reprogrammed when the remote batteries were changed. It also did not have a display/sensor for humidity. The remote for the Ambient Weather station will transmit once per minute, which is quite adequate. I have had my unit for a month, during which time it has performed perfectly. It displays the time, indoor and outdoor temperature, and outdoor humidity, so setup is quick and simple. They claim battery life is about 2 years in both display and remote.

Oregon Scientific Weather Station 500 Review

Looks and works like advertised - I'm very happy with it! Nice large easy to read numbers, and an arrow button to toggle through the three available remote monitors, of which it comes with one included. (I ordered an additional one and both work fine.) Quality seems good, and no complaints so far after approx. 1 month of use. The lighted display comes in handy to illuminate all the readings when surrounding room lights are off, and stays on for approx. 5~6 seconds when the light button is pushed. The main reason I bought this one is for the outdoor humidity sensor, in which I had a cheaper brand before that didn't last long at all.

Honeywell TM005X Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermo-Hygrometer Review

Honeywell TM005X Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermo-Hygrometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was most interested in the humidity measurement. I conducted a calibration****(See update at end of review) with a sling psychrometer. A sling psychrometer measures wet bulb/dry bulb temperature and is the least expensive (albeit a bit tedious to use) and most accurate way to determine relative humidity (RH).
I needed to know relative humidity for curiosity indoors and for a chamber in my basement used to dry cure sausage (I needed a 70%RH environment). The Honeywell unit was spot on with the sling psychrometer (and temp. was accurate as well).
The unit is new; I need to check it over time for accuracy. However, it's running very well so far and the price is right. I'll be buying more remote sensors [...] I found the remote sensor part no. is TS33C, can find them on Amazon with that search).
The majority of complaints say the humidity is "off." However, I didn't see a single valid calibration conducted.
Update 01-March-2009
I just took the main unit, the sensor and sling psychrometer. The conditions in my home at time of testing were 68F and 30% relative humidity.
Main unit read 68.4F/30% RH
The Sensor: 68.0F/30% RH
Sling Psychrometer: 68F/31% RH
The sling psychrometer consists of two sealed thermometers and will never need a calibration, it is an accurate standard. This Honeywell Unit is pretty darn good.
Update 13-Dec-2009
Someone contacted me and corrected a big point. I did not calibrate the unit by adjusting it to a known standard, I simply compared the values. My apologies for this rather serious error.

Oregon Scientific RMR500ES Clima-Control Solar Powered Climate Monitor and Weather Forecaster with Mold Alert Review

Oregon Scientific RMR500ES Clima-Control Solar Powered Climate Monitor and Weather Forecaster with Mold Alert
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned an Oregon Scientific thermometer before and I was interested to see if my THR268 sensor would work with this unit. It does, it is not the modern sensor that comes with the unit that displays humidity so that part of the reading is blank but it does display the temperature.
I have a two bedroom apartment and I do try and keep each room at one consistent temperature on top of tracking the temperature outside and this one unit provides a centralized location for me to check each room's temperature throughout the day.
With the cold weather here in Washington causing static electricity within the apartment, I was able to track the humidity percentage in the main room after putting on a pot of water. Works like a charm!
The weather picture indicator isn't always accurate but that seems so minimal compared to the reason why I purchased the unit and it provides a good laugh or paniced pause when it says that it snowing and it isn't.
The package comes with several colorful indicator labels that simply click into the hard plastic screen (you either use the ones that are provided or you write your own). A battery is provided for power back-up to the rechargeable battery that is also provided. I received the unit while it was raining so it took me a few days before I could put it outside but once a non-rainy overcast day came, I left it out all day and I haven't had to recharge it since. Also in the box was one sensor that you put outside and another to put in a room that displays the temperature and humidity percentage on the sensor as well as the main unit indicator; the main unit also displays the sensors battery level. You can have up to four sensors and if you don't have four sensors, the bottom two areas can be used for date and time. The instructions said it could take up to 24 hours to receive the time from Colorado but it was accurate within seconds. The main unit numbers are large and could be read by someone who might need larger print.
I purchased this item blind back in October, no reviews only my trust in the manufacture, and I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I received my TX2000 as a Christmas present six years ago. It has been reliable and
very accurate until today when it totally failed. That is a pretty good life span
for a unit of this price. I kept my outdoor unit in a zip lock baggy and placed it
where the sun would never hit it directly. The only two negative things about is is
there is no loop to hang the outdoor unit from and it is not water tight. If they would
improve the outdoor unit to include those two things, the product would be fantastic.

Dress appropriate for cold weather by monitoring outside temperatures with this Discovery Channel wireless temperature station from industry leader, La Crosse Technology. Simple in design, the temperature station allows users to check outdoor temperatures while keeping an eye on the indoor climate for energy efficiency and maximum comfort. The temperature station also benefits from an atomic clock, resetting the time according to radio transmissions from the US Atomic Clock for precision.
The temperature station\'s indoor receiver stands alone for tabletop placement or mounts on a wall. With eight-contrast settings, the LCD screen relates the time, date, and indoor and outdoor temperatures. Using the primary button interface, the user can select the appropriate time zone, turn off the atomic clock, override automatic DST, choose 12- or 24-hour times and Fahrenheit or Celsius readings, and check the MIN/MAX recorded temperatures. A secondary button interface, located behind a shield on the receiver\'s face, enables setting the unit\'s two alarms, adjusting the snooze function from 0 to 30 minutes, and displaying the date and alarms. The remote TX6U sensor evaluates the outdoor temperature and transmits it to the receiver from a maximum distance of 80 feet. The sensor registers temperatures ranging from -21.8 to +157.8 degrees F; the receiver measures indoor temperatures from +14.2 to +139 degrees F. Equipped with a bracket for wall or upright installation, shelter the sensor from direct sunlight and rain for successful operation. This system accommodates up to three outdoor sensors. For power, the receiver and sensor require the separate purchase of two AA alkaline batteries apiece. A limited one-year warranty covers this item. The receiver measures approximately 3 inches wide by 1 inch deep by 7-1/2 inches high, and the sensor measures 1-1/2 inches wide by 4/5 inch deep by 5 inches high.

Bought 2 of these the other day. Opened them up, put in the battery, and they were ready to go. I bought two of them so I could install them in each of my childrens bedrooms so I could tell the range of the temp and humidity each of thier rooms. First I put these next to my house thermostat which has a current temp and humidity displayed. After 1 hour of being in the same room right next to the thermostat both of the Cheney units read exactly what the temp was, and the humidity on both units were the reading the exact same (7 units higher) then my house thermostat. I don't know if my house unit is accurate or not but at least the two Cheney units read the same for temp & humidity. If they read differently than each other than I would say they weren't accurate but since both read the exact same things I give them two thumbs up and agree this is a great buy, especially since it displays the current temp and humidity and displays the daily low/high for each. Great Product!!!! Small, lightweight, has magnet on back to stick to fridge or can use clip to attach it to belt, or anything it can clip to. It also can be placed on a desk, shelf, etc but standing it on end with the attached stilt.

I purchased this item and installed fresh batteries, carefully following the instructions to get everything started up in the right sequence. I got initial readings for both indoor & outdoor temperatures, and some subsequent updates while the receiver and transmitter were about 2 feet away from each other. But shortly after installing the transmitter outside (about 30 feet away), the receiver lost the signal and was not able to pick it up again. So I pulled all the batteries and did the whole startup sequence again. I got good outdoor readings for about half a day and now I'm getting nothing from the outdoor transmitter again. I've tried moving the receiver to just 10 feet away from the transmitter and it still isn't able to reacquire the signal. It simply isn't reasonable to have to keep resetting the receiver and transmitter with battery pulls. I was hopeful that the claimed 260 foot range would mean it could do at least 30-40 feet reliably, but it simply isn't performing. I'm going to return this product since it's of no use to me as is.

Stay informed about the indoor and outdoor temperatures with this basic wireless temperature station. From La Crosse Technology, the WS-9009BK-IT-CBP temperature station relates the current indoor and outdoor temperatures while tracking both environments\' recorded minimum and maximum temperatures.
The temperature station\'s receiver features a black plastic frame.

This unit is a bit of a dissapointment. My bad I went for price. Resetting time temp is not easy or intuitive. Keep the instrcutions handy. The remote sensor which I had about 20 feet away phases in and out. Spend more on a better unit.

La Crosse Technology's wireless temperature station keeps you dressed and prepared for the weather ahead. The unit monitors indoor temperature, and records minimum and maximum temperatures. A barometric tendency arrow helps crystallize where the weather is going for safer, drier, and sunnier outings, garden work, and home improvement projects. The unit displays three weather icons that indicate what's happening outside presently, and monitors fluctuations in barometric pressure for forecast displays. Hang it on the wall or set it up on a desk with the detachable stand. The station receives data from up to three sensors (extra sensors sold separately).

La Crosse Technology TX27U-IT 915 MHz Wireless Temperature Sensor with LCD Review

La Crosse Technology TX27U-IT 915 MHz Wireless Temperature Sensor with LCD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This La Crosse Technology TX27U-IT 915 MHz Wireless Temperature Sensor with LCD is the same Model TX27U-IT that comes standard with and works at the outdoor transmitter for the La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP Wireless Thermometer, which accepts a total of three sensor/transmitters - two in addition to the standard one that come with the wireless thermometer. If you have this particular La Crosse Wireless Thermometer, adding these is an excellent way to monitor the temperature in a child's bedroom, a greenhouse, a back year, a basement or any number of other locations.
The specs note that the TX27U-IT sensor has a range of 330 feet (100 m). I've tested mine at about 250 feet away, and have it mounted outside behind foliage and part of the building about 175 feet away - it works just fine. The 330 feet should be considered as in "open air" with no obstructions and that radio waves like this don't curve around objects. The actual transmission range depends on how many obstructions (walls, floors, the roof, ceilings, outdoor foliage, etc.) are in the way, and could cut the signal range in half.
Please also note that this is NOT a dual channel model with humidity, rainfall, snow measurement, local bug count, political affiliations of those who pass by or any other function combined. It senses temperature... and that's it, and it should only be used with other La Crosse 915 MHz weather instruments. If in doubt, check the La Crosse site on the 'Net for more info, or call their customer support people.
The La Crosse Technology TX29U-IT 915 MHz Wireless Temperature Sensor is anther model that that is similar in function, but it lacks the LCD panel. The La Crosse Technology TX37U-IT 915 Mhz Wireless Temperature Sensor is also similar, and also lacks the LCD temperature display, but is a weather resistant solution where direct exposure could be a factor.
In any case, these are excellent solutions if you want to expand the capability of the wireless thermometer mentioned above... and remember, no more than a total of three remote sensor/transmitters can be used with this unit!

Check the outdoor temperature from multiple locations of a yard by adding an extra wireless temperature sensor to a separately-purchased La Crosse Technology weather station. For use with any La Crosse 915 MHz weather system with IT technology, the TX27U-IT wireless sensor transmits outdoor temperature readings from -39.8 to 139.8 degrees F to the system receiver to help users to plan appropriately for brisk or hot weather. Additionally, the sensor provides on-site temperatures on its small LCD; this sensor does not evaluate humidity or air pressure. At a 915 MHz frequency, the sensor communicates from a distance of up to 330 feet unobstructed. Transmission through walls reduces the wireless range. Using the provided mounting bracket, install the sensor in a sheltered location to protect it from rain and direct sunlight. This sensor also can be employed for indoor temperature monitoring. For power, the sensor requires one CR2032 cell battery. A limited one-year warranty covers this item. The sensor measures approximately 1-1/2 inches wide by 1/2 inch deep by 3-1/2 inches high.

Chaney Instruments Acu-Rite 00972 Wireless Weather Thermometer Review

Chaney Instruments Acu-Rite 00972 Wireless Weather Thermometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, will someone please make a WiFi weather station? And by that I don't mean an overpriced Davis Instruments VantagePro2 with a lame serial-to-WiFi interface; I mean a consolidated module with built-in WiFI out of the box that you can connect to via a web browser. If Withings can make a WiFi bodyscale for $160 then I know someone can do the same for temperature and humidity.
Until that happens, we're left with solutions such as this one from Chaney Instruments/Acu-Rite. They make a variety of weather products, but this one spoke to me with its low center of gravity, good mix of features, and AA battery power requirements. The plastic is cheap but doesn't show fingerprints. The silver base can be removed, permitting creative mounting options. For cheap plastic consumer crap, this is not a bad package.
The base station has its own sensor suite and supports up to three external wireless modules. Unfortunately, extra modules are expensive, so it's better to simply buy three base station packages. Then you'll have three base stations and three modules. There's no complicated pairing or bonding between a specific station and a module; all three base stations will pick up all three modules more or less at the same time. I say more or less because the base station has quirks and is very unpredictable. Sometimes it will detect a sensor right away; sometimes it takes hours. Sometimes the date and time will automatically set right away; sometimes it takes hours. But eventually, the base station will sync up with everything.
Probably the most annoying aspect of this product is that, while it's attempting to sync the date/time, it becomes unresponsive. And it seems to attempt a syncing about once every ten minutes. And this attempt can last a few minutes. So the unit can become unresponsive for about 2 out of every 10 minutes--often when you're trying to switch to a different sensor. There should be a way to sync once and then turn syncing off. Or set the sync rate to once per week or month. No electronic device should become unresponsive for minutes at a time unless you're doing a firmware upgrade and it was your choice to begin with.
Other annoying nits include...
* Animated moon phase indicator makes you wait far too long before you actually get to know what the moon phase is.
* Base station screen not easy to see; not enough contrast. There is a "backlight" button but the side-firing green LEDs only turn on for a few seconds.
* Base stations report values that differ from both each other and from the remote sensors at the same location (i.e., questionable accuracy).
* Doesn't like rechargeable AA batteries. You can use them. But then, for example, the "backlight" won't illuminate. Company confirmed that the product needs alkalines or preferably lithiums.
* Inability to calibrate the sensors.
* Inability to display more than one external sensor at a time.
* Inability to silence an annoying beep that is heard with every key press.
* Lack of a calendar despite having more than enough space for one.
* Remote sensor range too limited.
* Remote sensor design is totally different from that of the base station.
* Remote sensors won't stand up to inclement weather.
* Remote sensors report values that differ from both each other and from the base station at the same location (i.e., questionable accuracy).
That's a lot of nits, yet I still like this product because I don't think you can do better for $35 (or $105 if you buy three). To reiterate, it's cheap plastic consumer crap. But it's also a unique design with a lot of features for the price. If only the features were implemented better.
EDIT...
I've since discovered that when the unit is syncing and becomes unresponsive, you can regain control by pressing the SET button. It's possible that short-pressing the SET button toggles syncing on and off. If this is true, there's no indication whatsoever on the screen (or in the docs). Also, the SET button is right next to the CHANNEL button, which means you'll end up accidentally pressing the SET button from time to time whether you want to or not. Still, this revelation addresses the most annoying aspect of this device.
I also discovered that if you long-press the LIGHT button, the light will continue to stay lit until you depress.

Works well except for slight differences in temperature and humidity between base and remote unit. Remote sender is being used for reporting conditions in my greenhouse. It serves that purpose very well.
It is a real bargain also.
