(More customer reviews)I love the layout of the screen. It is very easy to read at a glance, plus it shows exactly what's important to me: temperature, humidity, air pressure, date and time. It is very easy to set the date and time and other options. The blue backlighting is beautiful. The option to hang or use with the included stand is great. The transmitter and main unit use AA batteries, which are readily available. I had no idea that the outdoor humidity levels fluctuated as much as they do throughout the day/night until I got this weather center. The whole unit is a little larger than I was expecting, and the weather forecast is not very accurate even though it has learned over the past 14 days, but I still think this weather center is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone.

To me that makes a big difference. I would have been using this in my greenhouse to know when to keep it above freezing but will be returning it instead.

Stay informed about the indoor and outdoor temperatures with this basic wireless temperature station. From La Crosse Technology, the WS-9009B-IT temperature station relates the current indoor and outdoor temperatures while tracking both environments\' recorded minimum and maximum temperatures.
The temperature station\'s receiver features a blue plastic frame. Equipped with a hanging hole for wall mounting, the temperature station receiver also comes with a detachable base for upright tabletop display. The split screen LCD conveys the current indoor temperature in large, easy-to-read digits with the current outdoor temperature, presented in smaller digits on the bottom of the screen. (More customer reviews)Do you remember those old mercury-filled indoor/outdoor thermometers that we used to squint at, wondering if the temperature was really correct? Do you remember how the outdoor sensor used to get broken after a few years, usually by a window being lowered too hard on its sensor wire?
That's not a problem with this La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP Wireless Thermometer, a great little unit that displays the time, along with indoor and outdoor temperature, in either °F or °C. It's LCD digital display is clear and easy to read, and is split into three sections, showing the time, indoor temperature and outdoor temperature. The outdoor temperature display is updated about every 16 seconds via a 915 MHz wireless signal, eliminating the need for wires.
The base unit, or receiver, measures 4.66" high, 2.29" wide and 0.69" deep, and has the option of being mounted in its flat base (see the photos) or wall mounted... and they even include the screws and wall anchors. Setup of the receiver is simple, and takes just a couple of minutes once the AAA batteries (not included) are installed in the base unit.
The smaller outdoor sensor (Model TX27U-IT) is a simple rectangular transmitter, measuring 3.5 x 1.5 x 0.53 inches, and it has a small LCD to allow for viewing temperatures while outdoors. It also has a flat base that can be mounted outdoors in a variety of ways, or with the screws and wall anchors. And the sensor does come with a CR2032 battery, which they say will last about a year. The directions say that this can be placed outdoors up to 330 feet away. I tested it at about 250 feet away, and it works just fine.
During the setup I found one strange quirk: if you set the time to 24-hour mode, the temperature indictor switches to °C, and in 12-hour mode, it automatically goes to °F. I personally didn't find this to be a show-stopper, just a mild curiosity. Did a quick accuracy check to see how much difference there was between the base unit and the outdoor sensor, and after awhile gave up, as they seemed to be at most 0.6 °F apart, which is better than I expected. There's a MIN/MAX button on the indoor receiver unit so that you can see the readings for both indoors and outdoors. Pros:
- It's very accurate.
- Just set it up and forget it - it works.
- Excellent instruction book, in English Spanish & French.
Cons:
- It can't predict the weather.Did you want to monitor the temperature in other areas, such as a baby's room, a greenhouse and your back yard, but all at once? This particular La Crosse Technology Wireless Thermometer already comes with a single TX27U-IT 915 MHz sensor, as previously noted, and will accept a total of three 915 MHz sensors - two in addition to the original. This can be a problem if you're not sure what your looking for, as there are dual-channel transmitters that will not work with this unit -- RTFM!

There are a couple available here that will work with the WS-9121U-IT-CBP receiver. The La Crosse Technology TX27U-IT 915 MHz Wireless Temperature Sensor with LCD is the identical unit to the one that comes with this wireless thermometer. The simpler La Crosse Technology TX37U-IT 915 Mhz Wireless Temperature Sensor has no LCD display, but is weather resistant, and excellent for use in outdoor areas where exposure to the elements might be something to consider. The point is that if you want to monitor the temperature in up to three remote areas plus where the base unit sits, you just need to pick the right sensor/transmitter.
Must admit that it was the quality that I had found in the excellent La Crosse Technology BC-900 AlphaPower Battery Charger that heavily influenced my purchase of this product over others on the market, and it has easily lived up to my expectations.
Had tested a few of these wireless thermometers and temperature stations from various manufacturers, and found some to be complete crap. One of the good ones was the La Crosse Technology WS-9013U-CBP Wireless Temperature Station, which offers the date on the LCD panel and its time is updated by radio signal. On the downside its outdoor wireless (433.92MHz) temperature sensor has a maximum range of "up to 80 feet." And be aware that transmission through walls and/or heavy foliage reduces the range on all of these.
If you're looking for a reliable indoor/outdoor thermometer without getting into a full professional weather station, the La Crosse Technology WS-9121U-IT-CBP wireless thermometer is very hard to beat.

(More customer reviews)This product includes three weather instrument packages: anemometer/wind direction vane, temperature/humidity, and rainfall, all wirelessly linked to a large LCD display. It shows those data on the display roughly in real time (seems to update every five/seven seconds or so) and keeps track not only of maxima and minima on most of those statistics but also when they occurred... very nice. Fairly easy to set up, see my review on the National Geographic weather station on how to get their similar wind and temperature packages set up. That's the good news.
The bad news is that the system is grossly inaccurate. The wind speed data always reports wind speeds thirty to fifty percent below their actual values (when compared to a NOAA instrument package very near my house), and temperatures that vary wildly as the day goes on.
I gathered enough data on wind and temperature readings several times/day for several days to see that while the AVERAGE value of the temperature reported over the day is fairly close to the NOAA data, the standard deviation is about 250 percent that of the NOAA data, despite my locating the thermometer off the ground and in the shade. The wind speed data's always significantly under actual wind speed -- the cheaper National Geographic unit with its anemometer sitting within a few feet of the Lacrosse anemometer tracked with the NOAA data very well -- despite the fact that I actually purchased a replacement anemometer unit from Lacrosse. (Both units showed the same biases -- wind direction was correct, wind speed under-reported.) Atmospheric pressure was, however, dead on... once calibrated. So, I thought, maybe there's a calibration procedure for the wind speed?
The true insult, however, was when I contacted Lacrosse looking for some guidance... could they recommend better infrared shielding for the temperature gauge? Was there a way to calibrate and adjust the package's interpretation of the wind speed information? Their Web site warned that they were very busy this time of year so I thought I'd be a nice guy and use their email. No answer for two weeks, so I politely asked a second time; no answer. It's been four weeks and I'm still waiting.
This unit seems basically well-thought-out, save for the lack of calibration opportunities. Without that calibration, though, it's completely worthless. Save your money.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the LaCrosse WS-9520U last week. As usual, the transaction and shipping with Amazon was excellent. I very rarely return online purchases, but this one is going back. In general, the unit is as advertised - and others may find it completely satisfactory - but, after two nights of use, I have found the following specific things to be unacceptable:
1. The backlight cannot be set to remain on continuously - it only lights when a button is pushed - regardless of whether you're powering with AC or batteries. I think alarm clocks are always more convenient when you can see them at, well, uh, night. Yes, the on-ceiling projection shows the time, but nothing else. This is less than convenient.
2. General build quality is iffy at best - the buttons are clunky, loud and awkwardly placed. The entire unit seems flimsy - like it's just barely holding itself together. It's extremely light and does not have a very steady base, which will make it prone to being knocked over (like when reaching for the snooze button - which you can't see because it's not illuminated and there's no backlight) and I'm not sure this thing would survive being knocked over. Sorry to say, but for $70, this just seems very cheaply built from the mechanical side of things.
3. I guess this is obvious in hindsight, but the actual time display is tiny, maybe an inch tall. Granted, you have the projector, which works as advertised (only when it's dark in the room - projection is photo-sensitively switched on/off - no other option), but seeing the clock from across the room during daylight (when the projector is not on) is not really possible unless you've got astronaut eyes.
4. There are no alarm options and the only existing tone is - IMHO - obnoxious and too loud - a sort of high-pitched staccato double-chirp. I realize this is a personal issue, but a few buzzer options would have been nice.
5. There is absolutely no way that the battery cover on the outdoor sensor will keep the elements out of the sensor. Maybe this isn't an issue if you have a protected outdoor place to locate the sensor - but if there's any moisture at all, this thing won't last one winter here in Michigan.
In summary:
Electronics: Acceptable and as advertised, tho the few things I mentioned could be better
Mechanical: unacceptably cheap, shoddy assembly fit & finish for this price point.

Oregon Scientific BAR332ES Solar Charging Weather Station Review

(More customer reviews)I love this system. Easy to set-up and easy to charge. The first day I had it sitting on the window ledge to catch some fresh sun rays, but after the initial charge it uses ambient light (from even my room lamp) to get its charge. Getting it to synch up with the World Time Clock took it over night to do it. I know plenty of impatent people will complain about it not synching up right away, but a few of my clocks took it over night.There are three distinct time / date / day displays that you can choose to be displayed at the bottom row, but it will not allow you to see both the time and date at the same time. I have it set to display HH:MM Dd. The display is large enough for me to read from about 5 feet away. So when I wake up in the morning, I can read the temp / time. Logically, I would assume that you would want to see the indoor temp first and using the largest font, but this is set up to display the outdoor temp first, indoor temp second.
It has a back light function is set on the top, but on the back half of the clock. Its completely flush, so I have a hard time actually activating the back light to view it in the dark. Normally the back light / snooze is set slightly higher to activate it, but this button sits at an awkward position.
Its pretty accurate as I measured it against a stand along a Honeywell (TM005). It off by about 0.5 degrees from the Honeywell in both indoor / outdoor temp, so its good enough for just a regular Joe to get an understanding of the temp. The weather predictor (image display) is pretty useful and somewhat accurate. I would have rather opted out that display for a humidity indicator instead. What...no HUMIDITY?? From the product description, it says that it provides the following: Weather Forecasting, Indoor/Outdoor temperature and humidity. Well, unfortunately it doesn't provide humidity.
I still kept it...but if you know how to get it to read humidity, please let me know.

Oregon Scientific BAR800 Ultra-Thin Weather Station Review

It looks great, but it does not work right, and there is absolutely ZERO customer support from Oregon Scientific. On this one, everything works fine until the outside temp hits 80, then the humidity reading immediately changes to 2%, and never updates after that. (It went from 37% to 2% today in one step) I have tried for several days to get it to work right... tried resetting, new batteries, moving the sensor, moving the receiver, everything that I could think of, and nothing helped. Maybe I got a defective one and all the rest are perfect, but I doubt it. It's too consistent a problem to believe that it's isolated to just one. Too bad, because it's a nice design.

Oregon Scientific THC268 Remote Temperature Sensor Review

(More customer reviews)Bought this item as a replacement one which lasted 6 months. The one prior to that had given me over 2 years of reliable temperature indication. So I thought the prior one was a fluke. I was wrong!! It seems that the new one is the norm.
This new one lasted 10 weeks. The temperature indicator indicates 32 degrees when immersed in water. When the probe is taken outside of the water the indication is correct. It appears that there is something wrong with the probe.
Since it is over 30 days since I purchased it from Amazon, I cannot return it.Talking to Oregon Scientific would be a waste of time since I did not buy it from them. Will go back to the normal pool thermometer.

(More customer reviews)The Davis Vantage Vue Weather Station is a new model from this U.S. company that builds high-end stations. The Vantage Vue is the low end of their products, but is still far above the competition in quality and features. I bought this one to replace another weather station that, although I've had it for several years, had never been very satisfactory. When the wind gauge worked, the rain gauge wouldn't. The wireless transmitter wouldn't send signals through an exterior wall to the console, so I had to hard-wire them together. The software connection in my computer was a poor database.
When I got a new computer, I no longer had the required serial port for the old station, and since the anemometer, wind-direction and rain gauge had long since quit working, it was time to replace it with a better system.
The vantage Vue checks wind velocity and direction, temperature, rain-fall, humidity and barometric pressure like most weather stations. This one also calculates wind chill, heat index, heating and cooling degree-days, moon phase, 12-hour forecast, and several other functions, and displays them on an easy-to-read display. It works wirelessly so well, that I tested it by carrying the console 100 yards from the house and could still easily get transmissions from the sensor suite. The Station comes with well-written manuals that are easy to understand. Installation was pretty simple and without any complications. I highly recommend this unit for serious weather-watchers.

(More customer reviews)I like the way this unit gathers all the information from the internet without needing your computer running. All the important information is there. However the presentation is poor. The three day advance weather forecast is displayed in the middle, therefore there is no need to have it scroll across the bottom which is hard to read. It comes with an outside temp probe but you can not display the outside temp easily, you have to wait till it scrolls across the bottom. The daily forecast is broken up in AM PM Evening etc. However it would be nice if it changed with current time of day, but it doesn't you have to cycle through it manually. Too much scrolling and not a constant display of current conditions. It's a shame, it has all the information you would want, but just does a poor job of displaying it. I returned it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this on clearance from Wally World for $30. It's an attractive device. I like the display layout with the current temp and forecast because it is not cluttered with too much information and easy to read. But the WeatherFX forecaster is far from perfect. The manual says it receives updates every 15 minutes from the network. This may be so, but it seems the network forecast is only updated once every 24 hours. I've never seen the weather forecast for the week change during the daytime. It always happens sometime in the middle of the night. The current temp appears to be a forecast also. I've seen the current temperature off by as much as 10 degrees when compared to my outside thermometer or the local news. On average I would say the current temp is within +/- 5 degrees of the actual temperature. Not horrible, but not up to date either. The weather forecast itself is about as accurate as any other weather forecast. It gives you a general idea of what to expect. One cool feature on this device is that when it downloads your local forecast, it downloads the forecast for all the cities it supports. So you can instantly check the forecast of about 150 US cities by using the "location" button. Another great feature is that it downloads all its data from a pager network and not the Internet or a PC. The backlight is nice and bright, but there isn't a button to turn it on or off. It is always on when the AC plug is connected and always off when running on batteries. For $30, it's a keeper for us. I would be disappointed if I had paid $100 for it.

(More customer reviews)The weather direct weather station was easy to set up, the instuctions were easy to follow. If I could change one thing about the weather station it would be how it displays the outdoor temperature. The outdoor temperature scrolls on the bottom of the screen, along with a written description of the weather report, and the name of the city the forcast is for. I don't like that you have to wait for the outdoor temperature to show up. I would rather it was available on the display all of the time. So far, the weather reports have been quite accurate. Some of the "expandable" features that it lists in the product description are available only if you pay for a subscription. For example, you have to pay if you want to view forcasts for more than one location or want severe weather alerts. If you are only wanting to see the forecast for one location its not a problem. Overall, I'm very pleased with the product.
Edit: I'm not so pleased with this product anymore. It quit working after about 6 weeks and I haven't been able to get it working again. It turned out to be a waste of time and money.

With this La Crosse Technology internet-powered wireless forecaster, one can check the projected weather without flipping on the TV, radio, or computer. The Weather Direct WD-3102U four-day forecaster sends free internet forecasts for the user-selected location to the display unit. A provided AC-powered gateway connects with a secure LAN cable to a network router for internet transmissions, whether or not the computer is on. Upon online registration, the user chooses the forecast location from over 60,000 US and Canadian locations. The forecaster also provides the outdoor temperature, measured from right outside the front door with the included TX-50U wireless sensor.
The titanium-framed display stands alone, or wall hangs. The current day\'s forecast, internet-set time, and indoor temperature occupy the top LCD. In the center section, sky condition icons and projected high and low temperatures predict the next three days\' weather; forecasts update every six hours. The selected location, location forecast, sunrise/sunset times, and outdoor temperature scroll across the bottom LCD section. (More customer reviews)I've only had this weather station for a week, but I already love it. Very easy to use. Had it setup in a couple of minutes. Sensor reception is excellent. I mounted the sensor on the back wall of our house next to a window. The station is located on the lowest level of our house (partially underground) with several walls between it and the sensor and they work perfect. The unit has an excellent back light that is orange in color like a midsummer sunset and illuminates the entire screen well.
The only slight disappointment for me is the poor reception for the Atomic clock signal. I am located on the east coast in eastern PA and with the unit in the lower level of the house on the east side, it just doesn't receive the signal. Not a huge deal, I just set the clock manually. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a well rounded unit that provides a nice amount of data for a great price.

Bushnell 7-Day Hunt Fxi Internet Weather Forecaster (Green) Review

(More customer reviews)This will not hold up to the riggers of hunting, camping, or just plain living room use. Why? It's quite cheaply made, not resistant to anything one might regularly encounter while hunting or camping which is why I also said it won't hold up for plain use. If you have a hunting or camping buddy, they'll torment you so much that you have this junk that you'll knock it off a 2 foot table and it will irreparably break. It's just that cheap.
During setup you're supposed to enter the country and state and then county. You can select from US or Canada. I selected US and then, since I hunt on the Eastern shore of Maryland for waterfowl, I tried to find Maryland under the 'states' menus. Maryland DOES NOT EXIST? No way - I thought, so I downloaded from Bushnell its latest software update - apparently Maryland has succeeded from Bushnell's reference of States of the Union.
This item is useless for me for either camping or hunting, it's sitting upstairs just pulling in the outdoors city weather and casting a glow in the living room so that I don't have to burn out the bulb in my night-light.
Oh, and one more thing, this unit receives its weather updates ONLY from the computer that its USB transmitter is installed on. In other words, if you were thinking of taking just the portable, battery operated (makes you think it can go in the woods, eh?) hunting, the Weather info is as olf as it was when you went 275 feet out of range of the computer's USB transmitter.
